Tufted Astrocytes

 Tufted astrocytes are abundant in PSP and are sometimes present in AD as well. Tau staining extends throughout the cell, including the distal processes. They are found throughout the gray matter of the cortex and in other locations, including the hippocampus. The image below shows two tufted astrocytes in the frontal cortex of a PSP case stained with the antibody Tau 46.1 and counterstained with hematoxylin.
