Glial threads are also derived from oligodendroglia and thus are associated with coiled bodies. They consist of tau inclusions in the inner and outer loops of the myelin sheath. Generally thinner than neuronal threads, they are found in white matter, where they sometimes form interfascicular rows of great delicacy and beauty. The image below shows a field of threads along with two coiled bodies in the medulla of an atypical PSP case stained with antibody Tau 46.1 and counterstained with hematoxylin.
