Astrocytic plaques are found specifically in CBD. These are found only in the cortical gray matter. Tau staining is restricted to the distal portions of the astrocytic processes, resulting in a halo-like “crown of thorns”. In the image below, an astrocytic plaque is surrounded by several neuronal inclusions and neuritic threads. It was obtained from the frontal cortex of  a CBD case immunostained with antibody Tau 46.1 and counterstained with hematoxylin.
